1936 5 Cent NICHOL KOLA Embossed Tin Sign
America's Taste Sensation
MEASURES APX.; 24" x 8" CONDITION; 7 [see enlarged photos] SPB#028 PRICE; $185.00 S/H/I; $20.00 |
Many decades ago, when the hoard of these various NICHOL KOLA signs were discovered, they of course, were packed with paper between the signs. A good majority had the paper on the for so long, that the paper adhered to the signs, such as this one here. We removed all paper from the front of this sign, but left the back alone. Cleaned with a light oiling, and She Stands Up and Out!
Study the images, and you'll see the signs of wrath. Still, Such A GREAT SIGN, for so little money. In all Reality, the NICHOL KOLA signs should be selling for a Lot More than they do. Let's face facts, NICHOL COLA Bottles are Scarce, as are other items. The sign, is a Real Piece of SodaPop History, Excellent Visual, and isn't getting any younger. Soon, there will be no more. I will eventually discuss the Why's of Values later on, here on SodaPopBottles.com and SodaPopBottles.com Facebook. There is a Definite Lack of Education in the SodaPop Field. As with many other collecting fields. I can confidently state this, since I have 50 years experience buying, selling and trading. With Millions of Foot Miles Traveled. |

KAYO DRINK REAL CHOCOLATE FLAVOR
Original 1930s Embossed Tin Vertical Sign
Tops in taste
It's real Chocolate Flavor
Considered to be one of the Best Graphic Signs of the times. And of course, one of the Most Desirable of signs.
So desirable, that it was a need to reproduce. Obviously this isn't a reproduction. And in all reality, the true value of this particular sign, should be around $1,500.00 or more. But because of the inconsistency of online venues, and the lack of knowledge, etc., the price range hovers around the $700.00-$800.00 range. Sometimes less. Because of our investment, and the fact that we know just how scarce this sign really is, we took the "middle road" with our pricing. If this were a mint sign, there would be No Hesitation asking $1,500.00. One thing is certain, It Is a Top Selling Sign Today!
{If you need us to email larger images, just ask, we'll be more than happy to accommodate}

A Bit of borrowed history about the Famous Kayo Boy;
"Kayo Chocolate Drink was the name of a popular bottled chocolate soft drink. Created in 1929 by Aaron Pashkow of Chicago, it was manufactured for several decades, and featured Kayo Mullins on its colorful label."
"In 1929, Mr. Pashkow invented a popular chocolate-based soft drink, Kayo, named after a popular comic-strip character.
He sold his company to Capitol Food Industries in 1964."
__
"The comic strip, named Moon Mullins, was introduced in 1923, featuring the adventures of the main character of the same name and his pugnacious little brother named Kayo. Since the brothers were poor and lived in a boarding house (Kayo slept in one of the drawers in Moon's bureau), the strip enjoyed its greatest popularity during the Great Depression, when Americans could identify readily with the inconvenienced pair."

Borrowed history about The Donaldson Art Sign Co. ->
"The Donaldson Art Sign Company in Covington, Ky., and the Donaldson Lithography Company in
Newport can be traced back to a partnership between William M. Donaldson and Henry Elms.
These two entrepreneurs began a small lithography business in Cincinnati on August 10, 1863 .
By the end of the first year of operation, the firm owned and operated seven hand printing presses.
With the death of Mr. Elms in 1872, the business became the sole property of Donaldson.
The company was officially incorporated as the Donaldson Lithograph Co. in 1883.
The company moved to the City of Newport, Kentucky in 1898, and was housed in the old Duber Watch Case Company facility (6th and Washington Streets). The company flourished in its Newport location. By 1913, plans were underway to expand the firm. William M. Donaldson acquired the old Central Covington Stockyards at 21st and Banklick Streets. Plans called for a 50,000 square foot building that would eventually employ 200 workers. The dimensions of the building, designed by architect Bernard T. Wisenall, were 160’ x 140’. The cost of construction reached the sum of nearly $100,000. Work on the new plant was begun in August 1914. At the Covington facility, lithography work was done on iron, tin, glass and other metals. The Newport location continued in operation and did lithography work on paper and muslin.
William M. Donaldson died on October 22, 1931 at the age of 91. Despite this loss, both the Art Sign Company in Covington and the Lithographic Company in Newport continued to operate. "
